The marriage of Josie and Dan

Dan and Josie’s wedding at the Leicester Guildhall was my only photography job outside of Yorkshire in 2019. Josie (who is my partner Tracy’s niece) and Dan had kindly arranged for us to stay in a hotel. The hotel was adjacent to the Leicester City King Power Stadium where the reception was to be held.

Leicester is 120 miles from Hull so Tracy and I drove down the night before. As well as looking forward to the wedding both Tracy and I were excited to visit the historic Guildhall. We had read a lot about it as part of our preparations.

Tracy

For this wedding Tracy (rather than my son Lee) was assisting me with the photography. Tracy and I used to work together regularly at weddings until she stopped doing-so a couple of years ago. But because this was ‘family’ she decided she wanted to come out of ‘retirement’ for one last hurrah. :)

Tracy as always managed to get some great informal photographs of friends and family enjoying the day. She also took some nice shots of Dan and Josie from the back during the ceremony, and really helped when it was time to get everyone together for the group photographs at the reception.

The Rain

Although it rained relentlessly Tracy and I really had a fantastic day working with Josie and Dan.

We started the day off at Josie’s house as she and her bridesmaids prepared excitedly for the day, then moved-on to the Guildhall for the ceremony. Tracy and I rode in the Limo with the Bride and Bridesmaids; this was great and gave me plenty of time to get more shots of the bride as the excitement grew.

The Guildhall

Leicester Guildhall was even better than I had imagined, it is a Grade I Listed building dating back to 1390 with oak paneling and stained glass windows. It really is a beautiful building and a great venue for such an occasion. Once inside I made full use of my off-camera and LED lighting to capture a what I think was a very colourful and well-planned wedding.
